Visit Serpentine Falls – Western Australia’s most underrated attraction

Visit Serpentine Falls – Western Australia’s most underrated attraction

Western Australia is home to some of the most pristine beaches in Australia. Stretching across 12,000 kilometres of coastline, there’s no shortage of white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and the odd kangaroo checking out the surf. It’s no wonder millions of tourists flock here each year. However, if you’re after something a little different and off the beaten track, head approximately 35 kilometres inland and you will find a beautiful gem named Serpentine Falls.

Serpentine Falls is located within the beautiful Serpentine Falls National Park – just a 50-minute drive southeast of Perth. Serpentine Falls cascades over a huge granite rock face 15 metres into the rock pool below. The best time of year to see it at its full flow is during the winter months. That’s not to say that the warmer months don’t have perks too. If you wish to visit in Spring the wildflowers offer an amazing colour palette tantalising to the eye. It’s the perfect place to escape the big smoke and laze around the natural rock pools with a good picnic.

There are many other things to see and do at Serpentine Falls National Park. Take a 6-kilometre walk on the Baldwins Bluff Nature Track which passes through Jarrah and Marri woodlands leading to a spectacular view over the valley. If you’re up for a tougher challenge, take a 14-kilometre hike on the Kitty’s Gorge Walk Track.

After all this walking you’re bound to have worked up an appetite. For a good feed look no further than Millbrook Winery – a little slice of heaven located in the historic town of Jarrahdale. You won’t be disappointed with its ever-changing range of delicious meals cooked by multi-award-winning chefs, and all local and sustainably sourced ingredients. Pair this with trophy-winning wines and a stunning view of the surrounding Jarrah Forest and you have yourself the perfect dining experience.

The Serpentine Falls National Park is home to a large variety of wildlife and natural beauty. The Park has over 70 bird species, kangaroos, echidnas, brushtail possums, wallabies and if you’re lucky you may even spot a quokka.
