How to have the best Easter egg hunt this year

Make this Easter one to remember with Tasman Holiday Parks

Easter is almost here! There’s plenty to enjoy and look forward to during this holiday season. It’s also a great chance to enjoy some classic Easter traditions with your family.

One of the most loved Easter traditions is the Easter egg hunt. An egg hunt involves hiding decorated eggs or chocolate Easter eggs for people to find, with prizes often awarded for most eggs found. It’s a great activity to keep the kids busy and get them exploring outside!

Take your egg hunt to the next level this year with the help of Tasman Holiday Parks. Here’s how we’re celebrating at our parks across New Zealand and Australia – and some tips for those who can’t get away this year.

Across our parks, we’re getting into the Easter spirit with Easter Eggs Hunts on Easter Sunday. If you’re staying at a Tasman park over Easter, you can find out more information from the staff about the egg hunt at your location.

You can also ask our friendly Tasman team about other Easter activities on offer. Keep the kids busy with a scavenger hunt or colouring-in! Let the Easter bunny know to stop at your campsite or cabin with a ‘Easter Bunny Stop Here’ sign.

Whether you’re exploring stunning beaches in Queensland, or the deep South of New Zealand, enjoy Easter activities during your holiday.

Put together your own epic Easter egg hunt at home!

At home

If you can’t get out and explore this year, there are plenty of ways you can host your own epic Easter egg hunt! We’ve put together some tips to help you create a memorable egg hunt from the comfort of your own home.

Get started by placing your kid’s Easter egg basket beside their bed or outside their door to find when they wake up. Want to make the experience more authentic? Leave some Easter bunny footprints outside.

To make your Easter bunny footprints, all you’ll need is:

  1. Printed out bunny footprint template – you can find one here
  2. Scissors
  3. Flour

Cut out the template and sprinkle flour over it to leave behind bunny footprints. This might be a little messy, but is easy enough to vacuum up later – and worth it when you see the look on your kid’s faces!

How to prepare your Easter egg hunt

Create a trail of eggs from the bedroom, all the way through the house to outside, or wherever your hunt will begin. Next, you’ll need to start hiding the eggs. Get creative with where you hide them!

Here are some great places to hide Easter eggs outdoors:

  • Pot plants
  • In the garden
  • Outdoor chairs
  • On the trampoline
  • Inside the BBQ
  • In the mailbox

If the weather isn’t looking great for an outdoor hunt, or you don’t have a garden, Easter egg hunts can be fun inside too.

Here are some great places to hide Easter eggs indoors:

  • In the pantry
  • Inside a tissue box
  • On the windowsill
  • Inside a vase or pot plant
  • Lampshades
  • Inside shoes

Get crafty

Enjoy a bit of DIY as part of your Easter celebrations. If you don’t want to use chocolate eggs for your hunt, decorating hardboiled eggs is a great option. Boil your eggs and let the kids decorate them with a variety of colours the night before. Then use them to hide around the house the next morning. This is a great way to get them more involved and a fun Easter activity for everyone!

Get into the Easter spirit by printing out some clues and signs to decorate the house. You can find lots of free printable templates online, like these ones here. Another fun DIY to make your Easter egg hunt one to remember!

Keep your animals safe

Always remember to keep your furry family members safe.

Your family dog will probably be able to sniff out chocolate eggs before the kids get them! Make sure you keep any pets inside or away somewhere safe until all the eggs have been found. Remember to keep a list of where all the eggs are hidden so you can make sure any leftovers eggs are collected as well.
